Got a mad passion for helping people learn to swim? Fancy being the person who turns a nervous first splash into a grin? This is the Level 1 role — you're in the water with the class, supporting a Level 2 teacher, and learning the craft from the best seat in the house.
The job
- Assist our Level 2 teachers to deliver lessons to our high standards, and help create an exceptional experience for every member.
- Help deliver the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme.
- Help keep the pool a safe, fun place for children and for the parents watching from the side.
- Give a hand with recording each lesson, tracking attendance and spotting progress.
- Build positive relationships with members and help them hit their swimming goals.
- Work closely with Level 2 teachers, other Level 1 assistants and pool helpers — we're a small crew who look after each other.
- Chip in ideas that make the sessions better. We actually listen.

You also love to help make things better for everyone, and you usually have a suggestion or two up your sleeve.
- Swim England Level 1 or STA Level 1 in Swimming Teaching (or equivalent)
- Strong communication skills and experience in a customer-facing environment
- Professional and courteous — face to face, on the phone, and in writing
- Happy to complete an enhanced background check (we arrange it and we pay for it if you haven't got one)
It would be great if
- You hold the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or would consider taking the course)
- You're looking to move on to Swim England / STA Level 2 Teaching Swimming
Your commitment
This is a part-time role. Saturdays at Maltman's Green and/or Wednesday evenings at Teikyo and/or holiday intensives — you can do one, two, or all three. Plenty of the crew do just one day; both is welcome, never required.
Once your sessions are set, the timetable tends to stay steady. We try hard to give you hours that fit around whatever else you've got on.
